‘Yesterday Is Gone – The Revolution Is Here’ Documents The North Shore Club In The 1980s.

Boards, clothing, attitude, even just being a surfer in the 80s was very different than the 70s. Somehow, despite most surfers’ best efforts, we were becoming recognised as sportsmen and women and not lazy dropouts.

But if there was one thing that stayed the same it was the quality of the surfing and the pride in North Shore. The foundation had been laid and the next generation of chargers led by Brett Peacock and Kong took on the 80s surfing world of thrusters, sponsorship, team challenges and fluro. Scott Peacock and Kong held aloft by their North Shore team mates. Victorious at the Coke Free’n’Easy Teams Challenge at Peregian in 1983.

Read about great club wins and narrow losses, the rise of the grommet, Australian champs, master shapers, outrageous parties, wild road trips, massive Mooloolaba, entrepreneurial surf shop owners, school surfing and club comps in pumping Wurtulla.

‘Yesterday is Gone’ - Another decade of North Shore Boardriders Club history to savour.

Following the Sunshine Coast’s North Shore Boardriders 1970s history Should Have Been Here Yesterday released in 2012, comes their story of the 80s surfing world, Yesterday is Gone - The Revolution is Here. The 80s was the decade when surfing exploded around the world, becoming not just a pastime but an emerging professional sport.

Wherever you were in the world just being a surfer in the 80s was very different than the 70s. Boards, clothing, attitudes and surfing itself evolved and changed. Sponsorship, prizemoney, and exotic travel became things to aspire to. The Sunshine Coast was no different but if there was one thing that stayed the same it was the depth of local talent and the pride in North Shore Boardriders. That and having a good time of course.

With over 100 pages of stories, history and 400 photos Yesterday is Gone is a fantastic flashback to the Sunshine Coast surfing world of the 1980s. A collectible coffee table book about the new world of thrusters, sponsorship, team challenges and fluro, about great club wins and narrow losses, the rise of the grommet, Australian and world champs, master shapers, outrageous parties, wild road trips, pioneering women chargers, entrepreneurial surf shop owners, the invention of surfing as a school subject and pumping waves at Wurtulla.
